Rover V8 rockershaft alignment

I purchased a pair of new rocker arms, but they don’t appear to have the "notch" or "groove" at one end, as shown in all the manuals to ensure correct location.

I have oriented the shafts so the oil holes line up with the hole in the rockers themselves (which seems sensible)

The reason I ask, is because the shafts I took of, appears to have been around the other way and the holes DON’T line up with the holes in the rockers. (the holes were in the 5 o'clock position if viewed from the end, i.e. the holes were near to the wear area at the bottom of the shaft)

Which way should they go?

Sometimes the manual is wrong, well the ones I read were. If you don't have a notch then look for a slot at one end of the shaft or a shallow depression. There will be a tell tale marking. IIRC the oil supply comes from the front of both v's of the block and into the heads so by looking at the block you can work it out. Don't rely on the head for clues as it will have a feed hole at each end because the head can be fitted onto either bank.

I got the shafts from RPI, they dont look like OEM ones to me. I really cant see any markings on them at all.
Its the alignment of the oil holes in the shaft, to the oil holes in the actual rockers that im not sure about.
Ive emailed RPI for advice, but that will take until monday!
