investing in the FTSE how ? and good time

Do an ISA for £7200. Any gains or income are Tax free. Put the balance in a mix of funds.
You can buy a fund through www.h-l.co.uk They will discount most charges so you only end up paying maybe 1%. Go for their Vantage service, you can monitor this on line. There are other Fund supermarkets out there.
Has the FTSE bottomed out....who knows!

With a 20K investment it is exceedingly unlikely that you will use up your CGT allowance in a year and so an ISa is just a method for giving away your money to a bank. You can buy a fund through www.h-l.co.uk They will discount most charges so you only end up paying maybe 1%. The vast majority of people who buy ISAs actually have no need of them whatsover. One big scam.
With 20K you'd be best opening an account with the cheapest online broker and just buying £1500 worth fot eh FTSE ETF each month and build up your 20K exposure over the year to iron out the fluctuations and performance risk.

ETA also ISAs do not need to go on your Tax Return so are easy to manage.

Secondly, you have a personal CGT allowance of over £9K each year, so your ISA would need to be pretty large to utilize that allowance, so for the average UK taxpayer there is no additional tax savings from using an ISA.
Thirdly, most ISAs have an annual management fee which you wouldn't pay if you held stock direct.
Fourth(ly?), the bid offer spread on almost every single fund sold through wrappers, such as ISAs and SIPPs, is widened to include a fee to the manager and kick back to the IFA. Even if no IFA is involved the hidden fee is still levied.
Fifth(ly?), a little extra work on your return costs you no money.
For almost everyone in the UK, stock ISAs are a scam.
