My first one ever!

They had some 'expert' on the news this morning telling us that if we touch things that have germs on, our risk of catching germs increases, therefore it was more important to not touch things than it was for people to cover their mouths when they sneeze/cough.

I am truly disgusted by this advice...Sneezing in public when you have a disease is tantamount to assault ranting

I know that touching things with diseases on can spread diseases, but atleast it was my choice to take the risk to touch it!

The thought of catching other peoples diseases because they have been told by the government mouthpiece that it is Fine to sneeze all over people makes me queezy..

You still don't really get a choice, the germs are everywhere!

Now if you don't mind I must get back to my white leather chair.

Be careful what you wish for. The way we are going with antibacterial this and microban that, no-one will have an immune system at all in 20 years time.

You could also take that statement to mean. it is important to do both, but on a scale of importance not touching is higher. As in, it is important to wash your hands after using the toilet, but more important to use a toilet than pee in the lounge.

I guess it comes down to what assaults your own sensibilities the most then!

The tho9ught of people coughing opened mouthed at me turns my stomach, whether they are germ carriers or not. I don't mind health warnings about hygiene but please don't advise us to drop what few manners we have left!!

For some reason I can't stand when people don't cover their mouths when they cough. Having said that I didn't hear the program, nor do I pretend to know anything about microbiology

Often wondered about washing your hands in a public bathroom - surely if you touch the tap to turn it on you are touching everyone else's knob who used that tap before you...

yes

Latex gloves are the answer. This may not appear polite at first but people will assume you are wearing the gloves to protect them from some deadly flesh eating disease and never bat an eyelid hehe.

And when you leave the room you are touching the handle that all the people that didn't wash after wiping thier arris have touched.

As someone who bites their nails, i am aware of that kind of germ..i still don't want people coughing and sneezing on me even if i do already have their st on my fingers :P

Coughing without covering mouth is a dirty disgusting habit.

Not touching things???

Get real! God I remember (and I'm under 30) when parents had measles and chicken pox parties. I must have had every illness known to man as a kid, but a week in bed and they were gone, now I have friends and have worked with people and they get a sniffle and end up in hospital. Germs are necessary to make you strong.

True, although the flip side of that is the wker who's really too sick to be in work coming in, getting the rest of the office sick and having it going round for the next few months

I totally agree with this, this massive increase in childhood asthma can be attributed to the fact that kids these days are not allowed/inclined to go about like we did digging up worms and playing in building sites and stuff and are too clean!! You need to get infections and stuff to build up immunity...............

How true, but bacteria/viruses now seem to be in a different league by being immune to pretty much all we throw at them, but seems someone has found an answer though.

Once upon a time, death caused by such bacteria/viruses was generally accepted, but not so today. Ask people that have lost a family member due to C-diff or MRSA.

Yes, there is a danger that we are going too far with cleanliness, but I guess time will tell.

Evolution - with some man-made assistance perhaps?
