Astley Bridge, not the nicest of areas. If he is any relation to the Sykes I know, or Bill Sykes from Oliver, he's dodgy.

I am sure the Insurance Investigator will smell a rat, and drag it out, going through everything with a fine tooth comb, to avoid paying out.

It'll be remarkable if someone like him has proper (I mean that will stand up to scrutiny) insurance. His van insurance, for example, may well have had a clause that demanded tools weren't left it it overnight.

If he was fully insured, why would he offer a £5K reward?

A cynic would also have expected his accounting records to be in the van when it was stolen so no one could check his claim. smile
