Decent Newspaper?
Discussion
I'm fed up of reading the Daily Mail, because I am not a woman, I don't care what style of swimwear would fit my body best and I am fed up of reactionary reporting ("99% of chatroom users are paedophiles!") and a complete lack of reporting of world issues.
I tried the Independent (new tabloid edition) but the fact it has a column by Robin Cook and yesterday interviewed Gerry Adams put me off slightly, as well as slightly too much pandering to Labour.
I tried the Express but it was, frankly, rubbish.
I quite like the Sun but I would like something I can read in more than a few minutes.
I refuse to read the Mirror, Star or Daily Sport!
I don't like reading a broadsheet while trying to eat my dinner which is the only time I get to read the paper
What do you reckon, The Sun or Daily Mail? Or shall I just boycott newspapers entirely?

I used to read the Daily Mail and put up with all the sh*te in it mainly for Keith Waterhouse (who I think is fantastic), but the straw that broke the camel's back was that complete arse Ian Wooldridge who, when S*l "Judas" C***b*ll defected to the Red Menace, wrote some completely disgusting articles accusing the rightly upset Spurs fans of being racist. He didn't understand that people were very upset with S*l due to his duplicity throughout the whole affair more than anything... Anyway to cut a long story short, I've never bought the paper again and now read The Daily Telegraph. Hey-ho!

Give up - they're all crap - get a cross-section by reading the Sun, Times, Indy, Torygruff and Gruaniad online... then roll your eyes, curse the state of the media and express gratitude that you didn't part with any of your hard-earned to be bombarded with bollocks stories, sensationalist recollections and mindless insights into the proclivities of this weeks pop-numpties.

Sadly, you're quite right... Soon before I quit reading The Daily Mail for good, I actually sat down and read through the whole paper once. Usually, I'd skip the cra*p and read what I actually wanted to read (that made it a 2 minute job ). Anyway, I was utterly amazed by how much dross there was, especially some "astrologer", "medium" (read: fraud, charlatan) called (IIRC) Betty Shine, who had a regular column espousing crystals and all the rest of the kook pantheon... Dear, oh dear!

The indy is quite good, ignore robin cook and look down a bit and read Mark Steele, he is bloody brilliant. Funny you say they panda to labour, ussually they support and rip apart all partied, depending what they've done the day before.
I struggle with Mark Steele - he's very clever and very funny but his politics are most unsound.
Read his book "Reasons to be Cheerful" though - it's a good laugh and quite enlightening. I found it by chance in Ottakars for a couple of quid.

God yeah - I'd forgotten those. "My dog died 10 years ago and I dreamt about him last night, is he trying to get back in touch with me from the afterlife?" "Well, yes it does ..."
I've only given the Indy two days so maybe the Labour conference has been influencing it's articles somewhat I'll try it again next week.
