And by colour I do not mean a sun-tan, but there has been a number of high profile incidents involving Spain and mainly darker skinned people (not sure if this is limited to Black, so i use term "darker")

I am of course referring to the Hamilton F1 incident, Spain football manager comments regarding Thierry Henry, this recent website abusing Hamilton again, English football black players being subjected to abuse in Spain, Liverpool players getting abused in Spain.
Yet Cesc Fabregas, F.Alonso, X.Alonso and other high profile stars have spoken up in support of spain saying it is not a Racist country.
There does not appear on the surface to be any active attempt at suppressing or dealing with these individuals, I say that because the website owners in question state, they are not responsible for its content, so who is, dont they have moderators like PH?

So is it a Racist country or is it just a small minority of sporting relating individuals?

Countries are not racist, people are racist.

Generalising about a whole country based on the behaviour of a few idiots could be regarded as racist, or xenophobic, depending on your perspective.

National characteristics are generally overplayed, but idiocy is universal.

Think it's just a small group of people, as it is in most communities be they white black, yellow or purple

They're more racist on the continent, but more in an "oh that person there looks different" and that which is unusual normally generates comment (not necessarily negative!)
But there's no more Skinhead-type racism than you would get at home. Though I am white myself.

My experience of Barcelona is yes, it's has a higher proportion of racists than many other countries I know. I found living in Ireland quite similar, but like anywhere it's still the minority, they just seem to be more vocal about it.

If you hate white people because they are white, then yes.

There are more racists in Spain than there used to be, for the same reason as there are here, They're overloaded with immigrants.

Xenophobia, surely. Hating people because they're foreign, as opposed to skin colour.

So the spanish are not racist for making monkey noises at Black people, but the OP is racist for asking if the Spanish are racist?!

Ever thought that the Relaxed UK immigration policies have exposed the UK to people of 'colour' and their cultures more than the people in the continent?

So people of other cultures and races are a bit alein to them!!!

Xenophobia is a phobia (ie extreme fear) of foreigners. Nothing to do with hate - but possibly suspicion.

It's just another easy soundbyte trotted out by the liberals, like 'Little Englanders' for anyone who dares think the EU is a load of toss ( = 'off message').

It certainly used to be in the late eighties. I worked for a company newly arrived in Boreham Wood on the industrial estate including Chester Road some of the workers were Asian women and they came to work in their ethnic attire. I happened to be by a window when some women went by to the very racist taunts of blokes sitting on the wall of a nearby company. Obviously I don't know how widespread it was but that it happened at all suggested that the relatively low numbers of visible Asians was cause for comment when some were seen. That was twenty years ago, though...

That's nothing to do with immigration policies - it's more to do with the fact that up until 60 years ago we had a global Empire, and culturally have far more exposure to the culture of other races than perhaps others in continental Europe.

No, the OP was asking a question, not making an assertion.
