Discussion
An alcohol hangover is associated with a variety of symptoms that may include dehydration, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, weakness, elevated body temperature, hypersalivation, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, irritability, sensitivity to light and noise, erratic motor functions, trouble sleeping, and lack of depth perception. I can do eight of those and I'm not even hungover! As I understand it, it's usually a combination of:
1. Dehydration
2. Hypoglycaemia
3. The effects of the various chemicals, besides alcohol, that exist in modern drinks
4. Gastritis
...in different proportions.
The best tactic I've found for minimising a hangover is drinking loads of water (>1 pint) before going to sleep, although for this you've got to be sober enough to think of drinking loads of water. Omeprazole (available over the counter) will help with any gastritis.
