Google isn't being my friend today so I'm turning to the ever knowledgeable PH.

Sat in my van around 9am this morning at a set of traffic lights at the edge of the city when a taxi (Skoda Octavia) came across the lights towards me. I noticed it didn't actually have a bonnet on and the two bonnet hinges were pointing skywards. There was no other visible damage to the car. It got me thinking what the legalities are on something like this. Is it deemed unsafe therefore against the law to have visible sharp objects that could further injure a pedestrian in a collision?

Thoughts and wisdom please oh wise ones.

Jim

Constructions and Use forbids moving engine parts than can be touched by hand without removing a cover, plus there is the sharp edges issue in the MOT Bible.

I'm sure it is illegal but haven't we all tested something 'in the raw' like this after a repair job.

Doubt they were using it as a taxi so it is just lucky thay didn't get caught.

I heard that if a car goes for MOT with a bumper thats damaged/protruding edges it will fail, yet if you present the car without the bumper, its not a fail?
