I knew this would come up - and I wish I could. Eating disorder due to major clinical depression means when I'm on my own (Mon - Fri) I don't eat - or very little - cereal bar for breakfast and cheese and biscuits for dinner, that's about it. I then eat normally at weekends, so my metabolism knows not where it's going. And yes, I'd love to be able to eat 'normally' all the time, but when you have less than zero self esteem and you are 'not worth feeding' - as I am in my eyes - then what do you do? And yes I am having psychiatric and psychological treatment and I'm slowly improving, but that just means at present I can think I'm not totally vile to others all the time - sounds extreme and it is.As for exercise, add to the 'problems' above I have a dodgy knee post arthropscopy which is worse than it was when I started, which means simple things like stair climbing is challenging...
And yes I'd love to go to the gym - but you have to be able to leave the house to do that ...

Me thinks the you speak less than the truth!i know some one very close to me with the band and cant eat alot of food which works but cant eat bread and stuff like that as it trys to go though the band it makes her throw it up.the food gets stuck above the band and needs to throw it up. But shes over the moon with it alot of weight loss and once at the her ideal weight the gell can be taken out and she can eat what. this is the fourm they go on to http://www.wlsinfo.org.uk/

I seriously considered it until I met a few people who had it done.....one of them nearly didn't make it. The long-term impact on your life can be huge, and clinical depression is a huge risk. Being able to go out for a normal meal would evaporate and you would somewhat have a food disability.
So I "got a grip" on reality and realised there is no easy way out so sorted out what I was eating and got some exercise - that was a year ago....I'm now over 7 stone lighter and my life has changed, and once I got into it the process wasn't as onerous as you may imagine......anyone can do it.
So unless you have a genuine medical reason why you can't diet and exercise then I would suggest you start tomorrow.....in 2 weeks time you could be a stone lighter and starting to feel fantastic, once you start that process it can be very easy to keep to it....I could write a book on this subject but truly believe that if I can do this then anyone can....
I notice your point about your medical condition - I believe if you can get on a regular eating plan the second your weight starts to come down your condition will improve. Start by walking - even short distances a few times a day, build it up gradually. It's all about movement...no matter how small, just keep moving.....

I have a colleague who has had this done, twice as the first band failed after some time. He has been successful in really reducing his weight, but has also admitted that part of the process was facing up to the fact that in his case he was resorting to such a radical step to solve the problem.
Facing up to his (morbidly obese) weight meant that as well as having the band fitted, he also changed his lifestyle, for example eating more healthily and starting to exercise. Whilst the band provided the kick start to the process, he still needed to do the same as anyone wanting to lose weight too.

Sorry, but do you expect us to believe that you've been granted some sort of one-off exemption from the laws of physics?Broomsticklady said:

)No seriously, if you genuinely have health concerns and have tried everything, then gastric bands can work with the right medical care. There are certainly enough succesfull cases or it wouldn't continue to be a certified medical treatment.
Do you feel that losing weight will help you with your psychological issues?
