Gear Box Oil Change A4/A6

Can anyone confirm on here whether the gearbox oil needs changing on teh A4/A6 and at what intervals? The manuals and service depts are somewhat blank or vague.

If anyone has the oil type/spec required that would be even better :-
A4 1.8t 1997
A6 2.4 V6 2001

Hi
If you are referring to the multitronic gearbox on the A6 then it is every 40k miles.
I haven't got a clue what the oil type/spec would be though.
