Alfa Romeo 75. Talk to me.
Discussion
I'm in Italy, I need to get a cheap track car, and the Alfa 75 keeps popping up. As much as I'd like a turbo or V6 3.0 I'm realistically looking at a 2.0 Twin spark. Probably around 2000 euros.
Good idea?
What should I look out for?
Good track car when stripped and caged?
Is an engine swap feasible? I'm good with spanners, but I'm not really a fabricator.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Grazie,
Dan

Very good idea.

Main thing to watch is rust - around tail lights, on top of fuel tank, in spare wheel well, around windows and sunroofs, jacking points etc. If you're sourcing in Italy (jammy bugger) it won't be as much of a problem!

(The 75 was called Milano in the US).
And here's a pic to get your juices going...

Is it possible to add turbocharging to the twin spark from the 1.8 turbo, or would I be better off popping a V6 in there at a later date?
Don't really have the funds up front for a 3l v6 to start with. Over here there's roughly 800 euros to pay for registration charge after you've bought the car.

A lot of people prefer the Twin Spark for the balance. The V6 is a heavy lump. The Twin Spark is quite tuneable if you want to get serious with it - cams, throttle bodies, cylinder head work and so on but it all costs money. I would go for a Twin Spark, strip the weight down and just enjoy it for what it is. One other thing - worth checking it's got a LSD. I think all 2.0 cars in the UK had them, but I'm not sure about in Italy.
