Best mate turns 40 in January. Would like to get him a "special" surprise....he's into planes, cars etc but having enjoyed ownership of a F355 and flown in Dornier? planes etc I was hoping for something like a trip in a Spitfire but understand this is not possible. Cost is an issue for us... but could probably join forces with other friends to say £500. Time on the other hand to sort something out would be more freely available....so all ideas greatly appreciated!!

The best present I had for my 40th was from my best mates and was a montage of momentos from all the time they're known me, mounted in a picture frame box.

It included photos, fabric, ties, dollars, crushed cans...............loads of stuff which basically meant something!!

It's got pride of place on my office wall!

Extra 300 trip with the Godfather of British aerobatics at White Waltham (Maidenhead) - http://www.worldaerobatics.com/Freestyle/Flights/f... Book direct, much better value than the experience voucher mob....and enough left over for a slap-up lunch and beers all round.

Have to be careful with this one. It could be a quiet party!

For my 30th (same idea though) my missus arranged a surprise party with mates I hadn't seen for years as they lived a distance away. They met down the local pub, I got sent out to the shops, they hid in the garden then came in and spayed me with silly string etc. Total surprise and had a fantastic night and next day - they all slept overnight. Not expensive to arrange and a wonderful surprise and memory.

I had a similar thing for my 40th bash lasted 2 days with mates I hadn't seen for years. Total surprise, I don't know how Mrs. Pookie did it, but she did, so amazing.
