Hi, this is apparently a common problem but couldn't search forum for some reason, its my Daughters 02 Cooper and the light came on over the weekend - I tried disconnecting the loom under the front seats and cleaned the terminals but this hasn't solved the problem - anyone know what may be the cause and is it a diy fix - we are trying to avoid the rip off prices at BMW.
Thanks

Once the airbag light comes on it will stay on until the fault is cleared from the memory.

A specialist can do this.

Its more than likely either the pretensioner loom or side airbag loom for drivers or passenger seat with too high resistance in the connection.
There is a modified loom that is retrofitted and if its been done before its more than likely been done wrong.

The best way to approach if its been done before is to replace loom back to control unit....thats not as bad as it sounds..takes me 45 mins

If you are passing the west midlands I have a B200 tool which is required to reset the airbag light or show any issues

Just for your information it may be worth obtaining a B200 as they are only £45 - £50 which is less then BMW looking for you.

I got mine switched off at the Local BMW specialist in Wellington for £22. Didnt take them long at all. Its not come back on in the year since it was done.
