Not really, a little too large. Mine goes in the hold every time.

hhhmmmm thats confusing! so when you put them in the hold do you mean you put your suit in your suitcase?

It actually depends on the carrier and the class that you are travelling, e.g BA Club Class you can take standard sized hand baggage plus a suit carrier, but Sleazey Jet would say that it's too big and that it will cost you £500 extra to put it in the hold (well maybe not £500 but it wouldn't suprise me with them!)

well, it all depends on the size, i imagine it will be frowned upon, and it all depends on the check-in bird and aircrew - I'd reccomend being on the first on to make sure you can actually get it in the overhead locker, as the moment it fills up you wont have room for one..

worth a risk i suppose...

You might get away with it if you pay the extra to go up to Economy+ or whatever they call it, another good option is too turn up at check in with it and say to the girl on the desk that you're getting married while you're away and that the carrier contains the wedding dress, you'd be distraught if it got lost and if at all possible could you take it on as hand luggage, if you pick the right one (ideally young enough and better still the one with the shiny engagement ring but no wedding ring) you can kill two birds with one stone. She has the magical power of upgrades and who more deserving than a nice young couple off abroad to get married, if she grants the upgrade then the suit carrier goes on legit if not and she says ok then you might have more explaining to do further on. I learnt this once when it was true and got upgrades like magic, and have since been "married" more times than Richard Burton and Liz Taylor added togeather, the only time it came close to failing was when the girl who we thought was "right" replied with "Oh I get married in a few months can I have a peek at the dress" close call but my ex came out with "I'd rather not he hasn't even seen it yet, and it's all wrapped in tissue paper for the journey".

Depends on the dimensions of the suit carrier.

I hardly ever see them on board now as I suspect BAA stop them at security as being 'oversize' (in length/width).

It's fairly easy to pack a suit into a suitcase without it creasing too much. Or get yourself one of those travel suits.

Oh yes and I've also asked the trolley dollies if there was anywhere that it could be hung up as it's a "wedding dress" those words are magical and they hung it up in the tall coat lockers for the crew and appeared mid flight with a freebie bottle of champagne.

With the price of extra luggage, is it not cheaper to have a new wardrobe made for you when you arrive in 3rd worldsville?

I get the impression you don't fly very often.
