With this year's poppy appeal just started, this has landed in my in box..

http://www.justgiving.com/poppyappeal08

.. so if you have the price of a pint etc going spare, it'd be a few quid well spent and a small price to pay for a debt we can never repay. Or if you can't spare anything, perhaps you could just post the link around the world and someone else can?

You can also put a message there too. Thanks for any help.

PS: Contributing takes about 45 seconds.

Buy Your poppies folks, thats all you have to do, and remember to wear it with pride!!!!

I always dump spare change into their collection jars even if I am already wearing one, just seems the right thing to do.

ETA, donation made.

It seems that the HSE wants to change parade routes. When will these meddling ninnies stop interfering? What gives them the right to justify their own self feeding, self serving job club by telling men who marched from Normandy to Berlin that it is too dangerous for them to march from The Spar to their town hall?

Anyway, if you can give, that'd be cool. Councils and the Health & Safety Executive might not give a damn, but hopefully we might do. It doesn't matter if people can't afford a few quid or don't want to, or give in other ways. But if they could drop the link elsewhere, that would be cool too - it doesn't cost anything or take a moment and it might get seen by someone who CAN give. In this way, we're all still helping and I wouldn't want to ram it down anyone's throat.

Apart from wanting to ram something down 'those' /\ jobworth's throats though (.. their jobs!) , this is how this year's appeal was launched in various places if anyone is interested.

Yep, I just put 50p in the tub whenever I am somewhere selling poppies, regardless of whether I am wearing one at the time.

Snap, and good on yer.

Trouble with me is that I'm administratively and organisationaly challenged. So I must now have about 20 of them though because if its on another jacket or coat, I have to pin a new one on.

I've got to get the Sunday papers on my way back from taking my brother to work, will keep my eye out for a poppy seller while I'm there.

Just reading that Newbridge H&S article, what a load of crap!

"President of the Newbridge branch of the Royal British Legion, Bill Pinney said the row started because the council wanted to move the parade from its usual starting point in the centre of town, to stop congestion."

I think that 95% of drivers won't mind if they know the cause of it, such parades and the people that take part in them are important. The 5% that will mind don't matter, because they're a bunch of small-minded tossers. If you can't appreciate the sacrifice our soldiers have made, in WW1, WW2 and the current conflicts, then you're a wker, plain and simple.

"The council has made a commitment that no costs will be incurred for the organisation of this important community event and we continue to support these plans."

Of course, the councillors will get a nice big bonus at the end of their term in office but heaven forbid that the money should go towards a decent cause.

The village I live in had a street market one Saturday every May, loads of stalls and things in the high street and the fields behind. Then H&S got involved and said we would have to move it all off the street and into the fields, or pay the police to block off the road as "someone could get hurt". This was despite the fact that we had had the market on the road for a good 15 years before and not a single person had been hit or knocked down by a vehicle, probably because of all the "Caution: Street Market" signs at the top and bottom of the high street, and the large number of cars parked along the pavement. In fact most of the injuries tended to come from people twisting their ankles in the rather bumpy fields, or kids clambering on the field fences slipping and falling off.

Completely ruined the whole thing after that, get less and less stalls and less and less visitors each year.

At the risk of politicising this..

"A handful of defence chiefs are enjoying huge salary and pension packages that have increased by tens of thousands in the past year and are now worth at least £18m."

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/top...

.. this is why a fiver chucked towards the Legion is priceless. Although seemingly a drop in the ocean, it gets to those men and women who NEED it.

Can we use Paypal? I really hate giving out credit cards details over the web, and I'm on a ship, so can't send a cheque.

EFA - HSE has nothing to do with it.. it is the council being over zelous in its risk assessments
