I do hope so.

Nothing better than walking my kids to school on a Friday and catching the noise of racing cars practising for the weekend. Only when the wind is blowing in the right direction though - hardly intrusive though.

What a splendid result, hopefully Howard will jump all over this and get the laughable noise abatement order reviewed.

We live opposite a church and get the bells every Sunday morning - first at 8.20, then again at 10am ... used to it now (10 years).

There are few sounds as good as the crack of leather on willow so I'd gladly live by a village cricket pitch ...

hehe at the Doctors name...

yeah, yeah, but I thought one of the complaints against CC was that the level of activity has increased, not just the actual noise itself?

Sadly I don't think this will help. The argument will be that church bells, cricket matches and pub garden chatter are 'traditional' noises that should be expected. A highly strung Ferrari V8 tearing into Folly on the other hand is not - well, not to most people anyway,

There's still the argument that the circuit/airfield was there before the newcomers so it's reasonable to expect some noise.

And this is what swayed the verdict.

Lets hope CC can use a result like this to get the F3/GTs back where they belong.

And the cricket club not allowed to put up nets because of the sound of leather on willow! The second nicest sound in sport (after motor racing)!

In the article/High Court Case, the activity at the pub had increased as well.

WRT to Castle Combe, I recall the problem was a specific breach of the defined noise limits (at the GT/F3 meeting). However, there is the greater, long term issue of new arrivals seeking greater restrictions at pre-existing facilities, a problem many racing venues are facing.

Noise & disturbance problems require common sense from both parties. If you buy a flat above a curry house, it's going to smell of indian food. But that doesn't absolve the restaurant from the reasonable measures of fitting carbon filters to the extractor fans. In the above case, the landlord bent over backwards to be a good neighbour. The problem (as is often the case) is a small group of neighbours, often arrivistes, using the law to further their own ignorance or selfishness.

If F3 and GT run at the normal race noise limits (which Combe have planning permission for) then I imagine we would. Currently they run rather louder.
