"Police have seized a caravan being used as a mobile drinking den by youths on North Tyneside.

Residents in North Shields complained to officers after seeing youngsters pushing the abandoned two-berth caravan around an estate, off Whitehouse Lane.

They reported that over a three-day period teenagers, some as young as 14, were drinking alcohol in the vehicle.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said officers seized the caravan on the site of a disused pub on 17 October.

He said: "A caravan had been put on the site and a group of youths were gathering there and they were drinking and making a nuisance.

"The area is near several houses and residents were complaining.

"Police took action and the caravan was removed."
