It turns out, that all is not fluffy and cuddly in Labour-governed toytown...

"Statistics" and "dodgy" in the same sentence = tautology.
Politicians have always twisted statistics to the point of making them utterly meaningless - at least for the last 30 or 40 years anyway. I don't think this government has massaged them to suit their needs significantly more than previous governments - that is to say, they've done it a s
te load.
ETA: I suppose what they have done is debatably worse though, in that they've pushed other organisations to lie for them.

Policing, unfortunately, nowadays is all about stats.
The fact the Government covers it up makes it worse. We need an overhaul, a completely new Government.
This Country is worse now than it was ten years ago in most senses - especially crime.
Do something about it I say, focus on the real criminals and stick them inside.

Guest Bloke was talking on the beeb about 7.00 this morn (talked a lot of sense!!), he said 7 out of 8 hospital admissions dure to violent crime AREN'T reported...
I would imagine that the huge majority of that is domestic violence though, which I think has always been under-reported. kambites said:

I would imagine that the huge majority of that is domestic violence though, which I think has always been under-reported. Anyone notice the pathetic statement from the government on the news over this?
Something along the lines of 'Although this means that violent crime statistics are 22% higher than we thought they were, violent crime is still significantly down'.
So you're telling me that beforehand we seriously were led to believe that violent crime had fallen by at least a quarter, despite the explosion in knife crime and drink-related violence?
The government are in serious denial with regard to how dangerous some parts of this country have become (and how little they've done to prevent it)

I've been wondering about this; would a Government based entirely on truth and honesty ever succeed? Would people accept the harsh reality of things as a trade off for being told the truth?
Government: "Crime's up. Here's what we're doing about it but it will take time and money to sort out."
Public: "Ok. Sounds logical."
rather than:
Gov't: "Crime's down, despite what the figures say. We're brilliant, we are."
Public: "Bulls
t. I was stabbed 8 times last week alone. You're lying about the figures."
Perhaps:
Gov't: "We're in the s
t financially as a country. We're going to have to make cutbacks in service levels and such in order to make sure things work out in the long run. It's going to hurt a bit, but it's necessary for future success. We're cutting out X, Y and Z though, it's not just coming out of your pockets."
Public: "Ok, sounds logical. Don't like it, but if it has to be done, it has to be done."
rather than:
Gov't: "Tra la la la, la...there's no recession. Don't worry about things, it's all ok because we say it is. Go back to blissful ignorance. We'll just borrow more money to pay for stuff."
Public: "Oi, that's our money you're spunking away. You've whizzed it up the wall and the s
t's still hitting the fan - except now we have even MORE debt to go with it."
This Government seem to be accountable to no-one and are making changes and decisions apparently without due consultation or approval from the very people they are supposed to REPRESENT, not DICTATE to.
So would a Government that admitted the truth rather than 'spinning' it away ever be successful? I'd rather know I was being told the truth and deal with the situation rather than be kept in the dark and lied to.

Tough on crime, b
ks.Tough on the causes of crime, empty rhetoric: a few headline inducing soundbites and...
...nothing.
oh, sorry loads of dead or wounded children due to knife crime THIS YEAR...
The Angus said:
A knife crime is committed every eight-and-a-half hours in Sussex, new figures show.
In the past year, four murders, one attempted murder, 18 threats to kill, six rapes and 210 woundings have involved the use of blades.
A total of 1,050 knife crimes were committed from June 2007 until May 2008, with Sussex Police managing to solve 688 during the same period.
But almost half of the knife crimes solved resulted in the offender being let off with a police caution – effectively a slap on the wrist.

The problem is, you missed out the:

Opposition: "The financial s
t is all the government's fault, elect us and we will be able to fix it and improve public services whilst cutting taxes for everyone"Which the public are, unfortunately, stupid enough to believe. If you can somehow compel all the political parties to tell the truth then fine, if you can't the public will believe whoever promises them most because it's what they want to be true.
