Normally the extent of my new year "celebration" is head into the village with the missus, get drunk at the local, stagger onto the Cross in the middle of the village, get frozen, hug friends and friends of friends for a few moments longer than really necessary, stagger back into the pub have another couple before taking the beer scooter home and waking up the next morning with a cracking hangover.

Any better suggestions, not looking to fly to A, B or C destination to have drinks on some Spanish beach or such like.

Regards
Iain

head into the next village down with the missus, get drunk at the not so local, stagger onto the Cross in the middle of the next village, get frozen, hug people you've never met and friends of people you've never met for a few moments longer than really necessary, stagger back into the pub have another couple before taking the beer scooter home and waking up the next morning with a cracking hangover.

Folks rent a place with friends and stay in watch the show. But at least its away from the masses (they have ended at a pub a few years though).

Usually just have a few mates over and we just watch crap/films. A few years back I was planing NFS (yes!) and looked over and it was 12:20, mummbled something about happy new year and carried on racing.

Family was possibly going to go skiing this year over xmas and new year but it didnt come together.

That wasn't enforced, it was personal for us. New Year is just an arbitrary date, if you want to go out with your mates just do it.

BAH, HUMBUG.

NYE is my birthday and is usually a letdown.

last year was one of the better ones. big meal round a mate's house then to a really good [but £10 in] club night. northern soul/indie/60's tunes to dance to and plenty of beers bought for me. only argument was when the oh wouldn't let me have my dirty pint frown

all you need is a bunch of good mates, decent tunes, and a reasonable queue for the bar.

fwiw i am going away with the OH this yr - paris or the dam.

Any more details? Where did you stay, are many of the touristy places open during the day around that time, off the cuff I'm thinking maybe go n the 30th for 3nights.

My mates birthday is on NY day so needless to say he never really has a good one as everyones so smashed from the night before.
Last year we went out as Ninjas, (3 of us) my mate has a bar at his house, got hammered before hand, (gt the ninja outfits from a martial arts website) so had the full clobber on.
Within an hour of being in town (about 10 o clock, we were all doing our fake martial arts, my friend karate chopped my nose & broke it, i floored him with a cheap shot to the bks in return, tripped my other friend up and he broke a couple of toes/bones in his foot.
2 of us had to DJ & were so hammered we completely forgot the NY count down...
Good times!
Another group of mates did a convicts pub crawl, they start off in the neighbouring town at about mid day, dressed as convicts chained together.
They then do the main bus route, stopping at all the pubs on the way (about 15 in total).
If they break the chain, piss when they're not allowed to etc they get fines by 1 guy dressed as a sheriff.
By 11pm a group of 20 guys dressed as convicts were figthing a group of about 20 or so umpa lumpas.
1 of my mates got arrested as he tried to run away (he's quick & can run for miles) but was so pissed he fell over & spent NYE in a cell!
Comedy!

That's not a dirty pint, a dirty pint is when all your mates shoot in a glass and you drink it.
