I am considering purchasing a new A5 with the 1.8 engine but i am hesitant because of the other engine variations that are on the market. What is the general consenus amongst A5 owners regarding the 1.8 engine? Am i going to have loads of trouble when it coes to selling it, will it be worthless in a couple of years time??

I have driven the 2.7 tdci and didnt notice too much difference in the power or the drive to be honest. I can have either the 2.7 or the 1.8 for the same price although the 1.8 has all the extras listed below, the 2.7 is quite sparce in terms of extras.

Extras on the 1.8 include- bluetooth, hill assist, parking system +, heated seats, black head lining, AMI, cruise control and 19" wheels.

If i buy it i will be paying £25k.

Deal or no deal as Noel would say ??

Think the 1.8 got (or is getting) replaced by a 2.0 TFSI 170bhp unit. I would probably buy this over the 2.7 diesel as thats quite an old engine and on a car like the A5 you want lots of kit.

I think 2.0 is best buy as its more powerful (my last post was wrong its actually 180bhp), 320nm torque, lower co2 if that sort of thing bothers you and higher mpg. For those reasons alone it should hold onto its value better than a 1.8, and at resale time it will be worth the extra outlay.
