There goes half the reason I bought a TVR !

www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=18843

(the other half is already dealt with by conventional cameras)

121db here - but not a probem. There is no specific legislation AFAIK regarding db levels for cars , just that it shouldnt be too noisy for the type of car. If they wanted to introduce these cameras they'd first have to put in place legislation for the maximum db level.

I would assume that like most legislation it would only appply to vehicles made after the legislation came into force.

Guidelines at the moment are mainly referring to modifications to exhaust in order to make it louder.
Not easy to do that to a TVR! smile

Ah yes expansion chambers probably the best noise you can get out of an engine i used to have an FS1E with a peashooter type chamber on what a racket hehe neighbours were not amused at me going to work at 6.30 in the morning . Then i got a Suzuki GT250X7 put a set of Allspeeds on that lovely , i had a mate with a GT550 with a J&R 3into1 and boy was that a lovely sounding bike but my favourite was another mate with a Kawasaki H2 750 with a set of pipes on cloud9

Best mod i did was putting a set of swarbricks on my LC350- iirc they were made for the tz - VERY LOUD
My mate out did me by putting a tz engine in his lc frame & ran it on the road, it didn't like part throttle settings- used to coke up & full throttle through Leeds was scary yikes

I always thought there was a limit and that it was higher for bikes (which never seemed fair) so I googled it and found this:

See here http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/information/cars-...

VCA web site said:
The external noise emitted by passenger cars has been controlled since 1929 when the Motor Cars (Excessive Noise) regulations were introduced. New cars are now required to meet Europe-wide noise limits. These have been progressively reduced from 82 decibels (dB(A)) in 1978 to the current limit of 74 dB(A) established in 1996. This means it would take 7 new vehicles to make the same amount of noise as a vehicle that just meets the pre-1978 limits. Information on the level of noise recorded for new models of cars at their type approval test is also listed in the data table.

When looking at this information it should be noted that off-road vehicles are allowed to be 1dB(A) louder, as are direct injection diesels and these are cumulative i.e. the limit for an off-road vehicle with a direct injection diesel is 76 dB(A).
TVRs don't appear in the database, does that mean they are exempt?

Type approved under a different scheme IIRC.
