Can't tell if its getting worse or whether I have just noticed a few more threads lately- but what is it about reverse snobbery around here?
All brands which are arguably quality but a little overpriced seem to be met with pure hatred and anger on this site.
Of late people have been pretty much branded as absolute s for buying the following:BMW's, Porsches, Bose, Bang and Olufsen, North Face clothing (FFS!),nice watches etc etc. Basically almost anything that is expensive.

What staggers me is that people actually get angry at other people whos taste or view of things is different to thier own and even deem to 'know' what the person who buys a Porsche is thinking eg: "Look at that thinking he's really cool in the Porsche. I bet he thinks it will get him increased gash".

It's frankly pathetic.
I, for example, do not think a £100million pound yacht is good value for money for the use I'd get out of it. Oh and of course I don't have £100 million pounds which I shouldn't forget while I am forming opinions. Becuase If I did have, maybe my opinion would be different.

I learned to to care what others think. I buy/do/say what i like and TBH i couldn't care if someone thinks im a tosser for it.

Do it for yourself, not for anyone elses benefit and your life will be much richer for it.

Agreed, yes I do feel the odd twinge of envey sometimes when I see someone buying something well out of my reach but hey, if I wanted to do the same I should get off my arse and make it happen. Just sitting there resenting the success of others is a waste of everyone's time, get over it.

B&O buyers are just misguided, but they are several steps up from BOSE buyers.

Because most people think automatically that if they cant have something then no one should.

Rather than looking at someone and thinking, "I wonder how they achieved that and how can I do it"

Perhaps the lack of credit availability has something to do with it.....

I've had a couple of conversations with friends of friends that are prompted by someone saying "you should talk to bill, he likes his home AV stuff". So you talk, and the opening lines are something like "oh yeah, I have the BOSE....."

In much the same vein that owning a poverty spec company supplied BMW 3 series does not make you "into cars".

(the exception was a neighbour of my ex girlfriend who after a couple of glasses of plonk, mentioned that he had an "ok" hi-fi, and would I like a listen. We decamp to his music room, in which are 2 speakers, an amp, a turn table, a cd deck, a few other discrete boxes I didn't recognise and a single chair placed in the middle. It was utterly stunning, and I dread to think how much as one simply doesn't ask...)

Very definitely. It seems that in a lot of countries, if you are travelling in an expensive car or have a nice house, people compliment you and say 'well done' and they seem to be happy that you have done well.

In the UK people will give you abuse, spit at you, and if they damage your car will say something along the lines of 'if he can afford to buy it he can afford to repair it'.

It's very odd.

i think that's true.

if i see an expensive car, watch etc etc, i think 'wow-that's nice'. i'd love to own one. he/she must have worked hard for that.

i stop short of envying the possesions though - i heard once - never envy something of another person, unless you're willing to step into his shoes and take his whole life on.

doesn't worry me what people *think* of me for what i own, but i must admit that i'd be worried if i had a nice car - as some of these tossers will just vandalise it for nothing. the fact that it may be a 10 yr old porsche worth the same as a new mini wouldn't matter. if the porsche and the mini were parked next to each other, i know which would be the target for vandelism every time.

but i guess if it's damaged, then money will fix it. you can't let worries about what might happen stop you from buying what you'd like to. now, if only i had the money for that porsche smile

I think that's 99% true if the Porsche forum on here is anything to go by.

It's good enough, just greatly overpriced for what it is.
I have a fair bit of it and I like it for it's discretion. Im not an audiophile and I live in an old cottage so I don't want modern HI-Fi stuff overpowering my rooms.

I dont resent people buying expensive things, on the contrary i think its great to hear about.

I do like to take the piss out of people who buy to impress or who rely on their stuff to validate themselves.

Frankly anyone who has the time to judge someone has too much time.
