Ahh the dead money market...

Have been going through the process of renting a new flat, which really is ridiculously overpriced.. when I went round to look at it, the sales woman said that because the property was owned by the developers they were going to rent it on a let to buy scheme whereby 20% of the monthly rent was deposited for you and then at a later date either 6/12 months you were given the 20% to put down as part of the deposit for purchasing(at the market value at that time) obviously if you didn't go ahead you lost the money altogether. So the extra money that made the flat overpriced works out more beneficial in the long run.

I've gone through all the process with the agent, applications, referencing, put alot of money down already, the developers have now pulled out of the scheme. Which means I'm now half stuck in an application. I am in half a mind as to whether I should bargain with the deveolper to therefore lower the rent to something more reasonable say 10% off. But I don't really know what a reasonable % would be in the market?
