Future Elise Owner.
Discussion
Hi there.
Im new to this forum, but have been reading a lot of topics for some very useful info.
Im planning on becoming a lotus owner in 2009 (late Feb-ish), and from my research i am leaning towards a Elise S2 111s with hardtop, as i see this as a good option for using the car on a day to day basis (correct me if im wrong). I have a bidget of around 12K.
My main question is this : Ive seen a few books on the Elise, but wondered what you guys/girls would recommend to a new Elise(and lotus) owner. I really want a book that will give me advice on maintaining proper care for the car, tips etc
and a little bit of history. Basically an introduction/beginners/maintanence guide to get my teeth stuck into before i take the plunge!
Thanks in advance!

You will be very lucky to get an S2 111S for 12k. Very lucky indeed.
I use my S1 as my daily commute & my previous S1 as my daily commute for almost 2 years & covered almost 30k. Why not set your sights on a cheaper version & keep some money asside for maintanance etc.
You could pick up a "basic" S2 for around 10k nowadays.

I would guess a 111s S2 maybe possible in the financial climate at the moment early next year. I bought one and am pleased with it so far.Have a look on www.seloc.org and join there. There is a techwiki that will give you loads of info to look out for.
If you want my laser blue /w/ hardtop in feb next year, give me a shout. I'd be under your budget.
I think 12K is enough to get into a older higher mileage 111s, there are a few around at that level - the 15K cars are low mileage 2004's.
I think that with suspension& all that guff, I wouldn't look specifically for an older higher mileage car with the susp. recently done as an exclusive constraint. Find one with lots and lots of invoices which show that work has been done as and when required.
When I bought my car last year, I thought, good good, new rear suspension. Since then I've refurbed the rack, new EP disks 1144's all round, heater resistor pack went, had to get a new cambelt after a bolt worked itself loose (lucky it didnt take the cambelt out), um, and a few oil leaks early on. For me the list just went on, but I hope to have sorted it all now, but on paper I looked for a car with recent shocks and tbh you need to keep your eye on the wider picture IMO
It will be interesting to see what prices do over the next few months coming into spring, I suspect that they'll not move much tbh, and will stay pretty level. My problem is that I just realised that e39M5's have taken a MASSIVE hit recently, and 11K gets a facelift 2001 model. 'Tis a tempting proposition........
