I have a debt agency chasing me over an issue with "3" mobile phones about 6 years ago. At the time there was a long drawn out chain of letters that showed that I was not responsible for the debt. All of which I have lost.

So the demands have started to appear. They were for £24.17. Now the final demands have arrived and today they are willing to cut a deal for a one off payment of £12.09.

I do not owe this money. Shall I call thier bluff and tell them to take me to court and point out that I will counter sue for all my time and distress caused by this matter.

Or swallow my pride and pay the motherhubbards even though I owe them nothing.

If the alleged debt is over 6 years old, it no longer exists. Tell them to prove you owe it in court and that you won't enter into any other correspondence with them.

Is that right about debts over 6 years? Where's the info on that?

So long as it's an unsecured debt and you haven't admitted liability for it in the last six years. Check the details of any arguments you may have very carefully before you start the argument.

We push a lot of our bad debt out for collection - its a percentages game, it's better to get x% of it back than nothing.

The amounts you're talking about it's not cost effective for them to put any more effort into it than a few phone calls and a couple of letters, so they'll go away soon enough I'd expect.
