Interested to see the pictures of the new Westfield Megabird from the Autosport show. Should be great but if it's true that this replaces the Megablade then I think some potential customers might be put off. I've been thinking of getting a factory built 'Blade ever since having a blast in one at Donington last year. At £14,000 it's a bit of a performance bargain but with the new Megabird costing £17,000 it doesn't seem quite so enticing even if it's quicker. Any thoughts on this?

I'm pretty sure they had a Megablade there too. I'll check my notes. There were certainly three cars on the stand.

I was going on a story on the site from yesterday. It said the Megabird would probably replace the Megablade as a factory-built car but that it would still be available in modular kit form. The problem would be that I don't have the facilities (or the time or the patience come to think of it) to built a kit! However, if they carry on building Megablades at the factory then all is well! Sorry - you're spot on. They had three cars there but the press notes do refer to the phasing out of the Megablade. Megabirds will come ready built though.

Thanks for checking, PetrolTed. It'll be a shame if the Megablade is discontinued as a factory built car as it was particularly good value at £14,000. However, I'll be at the Autosport show on Sunday so I'll have a good chance to check out the Megabird for myself. Plus, the Westfield people are always good to have a chat with. BTW, did the press notes have details of the power output and 0-60 time etc. for the 'Bird? Edited by webstance on Friday 12th January 11:45

To be fair I found them quite agreeable and enthusiastic even when I wasn't a potential buyer. Nevertheless, I guess anyone in the trade gets friendlier if they can smell money!

You never know. If you ask them nicely, they might put together one of their modular Megablade kits for you, and charge you £14k. After all, if they're still making the kits, and I'm sure they can remember how to glue them together, they'd be daft to lose a sale. James

I would just like to comment on the megablade.
Although i'm only 20, if i get some money together i would seriously consider buying a megablade, i had a spin in one last year and it was the best driving experience i've ever had. Awesome

Westfield have phased out the Megablade due to its inability to meet SVA emissions limits. You can still build one yourself if you use a pre-'95 engine or fit a cat. You can remove the cat after SVA as it is not required for subsequent MOTs. That's red-tape for you...
