I changed the oil at the weekend and after fitting all panels back on including rear difuser tried starting it up and it seems the starting motor has gone sounding very ropey and hesitant. Just curious if this is common?? checked all wiring etc and all seems fine.

scratchchin Maybe. I really can't see a simple oil change affecting the starting of the car. I'd give it a good charge before investigating further. Can you reset the ECU on the Toyota engines? Maybe worth doing?

classic sign of a duff battery is the solenoid clicking but the car not starting. the battery may well shown 12.7 volts, but as soon as the solenoid switches the power to the starter, the voltage drops like a stone and the engine wont turn. because of the low volts the coil in the solenoid no longer has the power to keep the switch closed so it relaxes. then the whole cycle starts again - hence the repeated clicks.

could equally be a bad contact in the circuit also causing a voltage drop. typically a bad earth.

doesnt sound right to me. most starter motors can be repaired / re-conditioned and new ones shouldnt cost anything like that. last one I bought for a jap engine was 160.

Let me know if there's a problem _ saturday we can probably organise a lift for you, Sunday will end up being a pax ride. Just get Ian to ditch whatever bird he was thinking of bringing along and go with him. smile

Give me a ring if you need to.

toenheal, zebs has his other motor he could lend you for the day, as he said, mid engined etc etc, so applicable for our drive out. Doesn't have a yellow ironing board on the back though, but I'm sure we could construct something temporary for the day.

I dread to think what will be in your coffee at the weekend _ assuming you're coming across Saturday and Sunday.

Does that mean you'll miss the run on Sunday? It's an absolutely cracking route we've got set up.

I could always do the run on sunday in the van make for some funny pictures haha..really though it may be best to just meet everyone at the pub after as im going to be miles behind unless it absloutely throws it down. I would of suggested using my GF's car but its a 1.1 206 so the vans probably quicker ha.

Saturday I've not signed up for, and have family stuff on, hope you have a great day. Sunday I'll meet at Castle Zebs, I'll have already consumed pig sarnies and coffee before leaving Mansion D'SeanyD, so I should be safe.

Hope the weather holds up for both days.
Oh and Monday evening, busy few days coming up bounce
