As I'm staying in a B&B 4 nights a week I'm spending (too) much of my time on PH and watching TV.
As a total departure from the norm I've been seeing some of the soaps and I'm hoping that they are not a real depiction of life 'oop north!

Hollyoaks.
We have a largely female family who have been kidnapped by the son who was given away at birth. Most of the girls in this family have shared most of the guys in the series, the 'normal' one has a baby which was thought to be her brothers, but turns out to have been fathered by one of her sisters ex's! The local pub landlord has faked his own death and is planning to escape to Spain with his family and a schizophrenic adoptee. The club owner has a crazy alcoholic girlfriend whose husband he killed.

Emmerdale.
In this village we have a family of 3 sons, one of who has killed his father, and got away with it. A family of pikeys who are quite a good representation of most chav families. A young farmer who beats up his girlfriend then ends up impaled on a scythe. A totally dotty couple, she in prison, he trying to break in to see her. A crazy old Australian woman who grows her own and a retired businessman who married a much younger woman, went into a coma, recovered and then threw her out because she was a gold digger (surprise!).

Coronation St.
One guy who has had his best-man killed on their stag night because he fancied his future wife. Rosie Webster lick has been kidnapped by her ex-teacher/boyfriend after she tried to seduce the murderer above. The guy in the corner shop has been having an affair with a Bollywood star, but is getting worried that her hubby may find out, so now is trying their daughter instead.

That's just the gist from 2 weeks watching yikes

It makes living down south seem really boring!

Now how do I find something worthwhile to do for 4 evenings a week for the next 4 weeks? This stuff is CRAP!

Those soaps have been toned down for the southern softies. For real life see craig meehan and Harold Shipman.

3/10. Not even remotely contraversial enough.

If you want a reaction, try something like this......

Why oh why oh why do they insist on referring to this Northern Televisual Tripe as 'Soap'...when everyone knows Northerners are no more familiar with soap than they are with any other form of personal hygene product?
...you see?

Now try again, with gusto this time (and, for our Northern viewers; No, 'gusto' is not a patent remedy for flatulence).

Often the soaps look tame compared to what does go on...

This is not the North.

It is not even the Southerly part of the North.

But it is, perhaps, be the Northerly part of the South.

A lot of chicks are like that down South, but that particular example is like it all over.

Yep, in Corrie we've had fifteen murders, three rapes, ten different corner shops, seventy six different barmaids and a train through the viaduct in 48 years........

Not bad for a small terraced street in Weatherfield........smile
