Anyone else noticed an increasing number of listings that insist on payment by Paypal only ?

I make it my policy never to deal with these impatient unaccomodating sellers and simply move on to one that WILL accept my bank transfer/cheque......

If you are one of the aforementioned guys - you do it to yourselves, you do.

It does make life easier if someone is selling hundreds of cheap items every month. If they take £2.99 for example for a CD it hardly seems worth the effort to wait for a cheque, take it to the bank, wait for it to clear and then post the item. Paypal instant payment, bishbashbosh job lot of parcels to the post office the next day and job done with minimal hassle.

Not too keen on being ripped off by ebay twice though as mentioned but cest la vie.

Its exactly this attitude that I'm talking about.
So, if I can be BOTHERED to give you my business then why can't you be BOTHERED to bank a cheque (most banks will send you FREEPOST envelopes), check that its cleared in a few days, then despatch the item...?

You'd rather make Ebay that little bit richer to save yourself a tiny bit of effort ? You're losing out by playing thier game, mate.
If I see 'Paypal only' I simply think 'Greedy, impatient seller' and look elsewhere....

Look at it from a buyers point of view though. I would rather buy something using paypal. Not only do i not need to leave the house but it can be sent out the same day so you can get the item much faster.

I see what you are saying, but as i said for small items with literally pence profit in each i can see why paypal would be a preference.

If you are happy to just buy from another seller then why the rant?

It doesnt quite work like that though. Cheques can take weeks to clear and if you have a customer waiting on that, they can start to get a bit pissed even though they were the ones insisting on not using paypal.

Isnt the point of Ebay to shop and not have to go out of the house. If you want to start buying things with cheques then go to the shops. And besides who even uses cheques nowadays, most places dont even except them anymore (eg garages, pubs, restuarants). they are past it like Blankety Blank.

Do you live underground then ?
You leave the house anyway so wheres the hassle in posting a cheque as you pass a postbox ?
I only use cheques or transfers with ebay purchases to avoid Paypal which in my experience is a total fking con.
You'll find most places DO accept cheques actually, its just your perception of this which has altered drastically....

No I dont live underground (except occassionally when Im doing a Tunnel Run). But the time it takes to write out a cheque surely cant be worth it, that alone takes up 5 mins of your life. And then you have o worry about what time the post goes at. And then theirs no point in posting after 5 on a Saturday coz the postie wont pick it up til monday. So then it wont get there til Tuesday or Wednesday. And then the seller has to go to the bank and write out another form to say how much the cheque is for( and thats if he doesnt have to work all week and his bank is shut on a saturday). Then it takes 3 days to clear So if the person goes in on the Wednesday it wont clear til the next monday. Then the seller has to go back to the post Office with the parcel (and again if he works all week he has to hope its open on a Saturday).

So all in all Paypal is good.

Five minutes to write a cheque ? What are you doing man, wearing boxing gloves and using a crayon ???? smile
I was a seller on ebay for a long time (before paypal was even dreamed up) and in practice its far, far simpler than that. You use internet banking and post parcels twice a week. Its a piece of piss.
Just because the seller has your money that bit quicker doesn't mean you'll receive your goods by return of post either.
Oh no.
Its this type of seller that, wanting a 'no-effort' business, will post items once a week.
Give ebay a listing, a final value AND a paypal fee ? Not a chance.

Only mugs play that game.

No no no. PayPal is bad.

I got fed up with being told I had to have my account approved, I had to have this, I had to do that. bks to it all, cancelled my acount completely and if I use eBay these days it's to browse and research prices only. I usually end up buying elsewhere because the greedy buggers are getting too expensive.

Couple the above with the fact that I like to see what I'm buying first and know I can take it back if I have to eBay and PayPal can shove each other up their shiney hoops biggrin

Similar stories everywhere. Its the beginning of the end for Ebay and I for one cannot wait.
More sellers, particularly companies, are listing thier phone numbers lately too which allows one to deal direct without fees on either side. Shows a little more credibility too. As a buyer I demand an increasingly strict criteria with the companies I deal with. Not just on Ebay.

I don't mind taking cheques as long as the buyer doesn't mind waiting till cheque clears.

ebay is full of crap, there are some things on there but usually those items are available in the sellers shop as in bricks and mortar and ebay is just an advertising place for them.

I can't see me buying anything else on ebay as it is full of chavs selling counterfeit crap made in china. If you look at cars on there there is always something nasty hidden in there somewhere. It is just like a "store" of 2nd rate goods from dodgy sellers who rip you off with P&P. Ebay should have taken a grip of this long ago but i think it may be too late now as almost everyone i know will no longer use ebay. My wife use to buy "new" clothes on their only to find they were worn/stitched or stinking of tobbacco. When she sent an email asking why she has got a well worn used item when it was listed as new she would get the same aggresive email with bad spelling back every time, saying things like it is ebay and you have to take a chance. WTF goes through the mind of these people?

What's a cheque book then, please remind me?

Isn't it only the sellers using Paypal that pay a fee, so what's the point in wasting time messing around writing out a cheque? You may be boosting Ebay/Paypal profits but the money isn't coming from you and you're actually reducing the profits of the banks as they're wasting their time f*cking around with a cheque.

Aren't 14 days classed as weeks then?
