Been umming and arring over posting this topic, but its Friday 'noon and I'm bored, so I've decided to pee into the wind.
I'm quite a picky eater, all the way from my childhood. Not a great fan of salad, veg, don't mind fruit but don't really eat it, spices, etc. I have a very bland taste in general, when going on holiday I'm the person the English menu is for. In fact I don't even enjoy meals that much (unless its a good roast diner, or a couple of my other fav meals), and often don't eat the whole meal purely because I get bored of eating it.
I think I generally have two problems, one is that I'm not interested in eating the meals I do like, and will generally just eat enough to take the edge of my appetite. The other is that there aren't a wide variety of foods that I do like. I am slowly getting better at trying other foods, but I've found it very hard to break down the mental block to eat foods I don't like. I'd really like to get past this, I'd like to try loads of different foods, and enjoy eating, etc.
Has anyone been in the same boat? Any tips, etc.

Yep, was me about 6 yrs ago, now i tend to eat whatever is available, but i do do a strenuous job, and use up lots of energy! However, try eating little bits of what you dont like, just to try it, and see how you get on, then if you do like something, you can go and try some more. i was like this with chinese food, never ate anything but beef with fried onions, now, i tend to go for more exotic dishes on the menu!!
I have no tips for you mate but your situation is not uncommon.
I have very bland taste and not much of an appetite.
Foods i eat. Bread / potatoes / cod / pasta /cheese/ most fruit. That is basically it.
No i dont get bored, i eat just to stop feeling hungry. Luckily for me I have a very understanding GF.

Yup, I was (and to some extent still am) exactly the same. Until I was about 16 and started getting takeout and going to restaurants with friends I would eat about 5 things. Peer pressure saw me getting a bit more exotic (pizza, curry, Chinese :haha
and now I can find at least one option on the menu to keep me happy which is enough.
Like you I wish I could eat and appreciate eating more but it's just not part of me. I think I was quite stubborn as a child and simply refused to eat if the meal wasn't to my taste.

I was very similar for years. Meat and potatoes, that was pretty much my diet until I was in my early twenties.
I got daring at university and branched out into curries, but that was it until I hit 30. I can see the pivotal moment right now, sitting in a restaurant with some people from work and this fussy bugger opposite left half their plate as they didn't like it...then I realised that was exactly what I was like. Decided on the spot that I was 30 and that actually veg wasn't going to kill me, so I should bloody well get on with it and start eating like an adult.
So I do. Some things I like, quite a lot I don't particularly enjoy, but sod it it's good for me so I'll eat it. It's a massive relief frankly but I quite understand the mental block, for years I couldn't bring myself to even put a piece of cucumber into my mouth it was that bad.
All I can say is start off small, a bit of green salad on your plate is entirely inoffensive and once you're used to eating that go for something with a bit more taste. It sounds silly to be giving tips on how to eat, but it's weird how much of a hangup you can get about food and I know exactly what its like!

I love meats, bread, potatoes (but not new), cod/salmon/tuna, some pasta, but not with too many 'bits' in it, cheese but only melted on a few things. No eggs (but fine if used as an ingredient), no onions, sauces that aren't too tomato-y, no stir fries, no mushrooms, no quiche, generally not a fan of salad, but will eat it, rice I eat, but I'll always order roast chicken from Chinese, Indian I'll have but only the most bland (I REALLY taste spice).

working on mental blocks is hard if you see them as that. It's not a block, it's there for a reason. You just need to find out what the reason is, otherwise you'll never get beyond the 'it's a struggle to try something new' thing.I'm quite a picky eater, all the way from my childhood. Stop smoking, HTH
Not a smoker, and generally don't drink, possibly have one, maybe two alcoholic drinks a month, and that will either be red wine (parents drink it a lot), or bottle of lager.Personally I'm one to always work on my weaknesses, I think I could be more healthy, less tired, skin not so dry and hair not so thin (not that thin anyway, but thinner than I'd like), and I'd say these are all largely down to my diet, so its something I'm determined to change.

Well i think im a little more limited than you then I love meats, bread, potatoes (but not new), cod/salmon/tuna, some pasta, but not with too many 'bits' in it, cheese but only melted on a few things. Don'T do meat (apart from cod) Pasta would be plain with only salt & butter. No onions. YUK! Tomato ketchup would make me puke! Even thinking about it now i feel nauseous.
