Have you been on the "Get Carter" beach? Also featured in Alien 3 I believe.

Alien 3 opening scene was actually filmed at the "Blast Beach" at Dawdon near Seaham - a few miles north up the coast. Very similar in that it can be pretty bleak and desolate! HTH!

Get Carter website is great BTW!

Eilan Donan castle, featured in Highlander.

The Volcano nightclub in Partick in Glasgow, featured in Trainspotting. (Was demolished shortly after that.)

The Blue Lagoon in Malta featured in many 1970's Milk Tray adverts and the film Popeye.

OK, not all round my way, but they're not that far away. Except Malta of course!

ETA the last bit 'cos Malta's miles away!!

A film by Shane Meadows called 'Dead Man's Shoes' there is a scene where they are running around a derelict castle which was also at some point used as a zoo. Really really odd place full of broken and over grown cages.

On the way up north on the train, Jack Carter passes BOCM (British Oil and Cake Mills) which is a smelly animal feed factory on the outskirts of Selby.
Another equally fascinating fact is my dad used to work there.

Alien 3 was filmed on the blast beach in Seaham. Get Carter was not filmed there though. I think it was further north maybe Blyth?

The Heath Road sand quarry in Leighton Buzzard was the setting for night time recovery of Imhotep in the Mummy Returns. Mentmore Towers just outside Leighton Buzzard was the home of Evelyn and Rick in the same movie.

Aldbury in Hertfordshire, was the village used in the TV series Shillingbury tales and has also been used in countless films including The Dirty Dozen and Bridget Jones Diary. Also nearby Ashridge Park (now a business management college) was used in the Dirty Dozen.

Yes, Alien 3 was filmed at Blast Beach, Dawdon (near Seaham)

Closing scenes of Get Carter were filmed at (a) Blyth and then miraculously cuts to (b) Blackhall Rocks, about 20 miles south, at Blackhall near Peterlee.

In the Blyth scene you can see the old power station in the background (demolished 2003/4), the "staithes" where the ships used to unload (only lower portion present today).

The Blackhall Rocks scene is where the infamous coal tipper is (or rather was - it was removed in the early 1990s. You can still just about see the remnants at low tide!).

HTH!

So how long until it's demolished? You get a good view from the car park, but I never did get to go to the top! I'll miss the car park when it's gone! Even though it is a bit of an eyesore! Certainly has character and a certain charm!

A mate and me went on the Get Carter Tour in 2004 - a whole day going round the locations and in the car park and seeing some scenes re-enacted - a good day out - then some drinks in the Bigg Market later on ...

A really good few hours - the guest house where Carter comes out naked with the gun - the bloke redid the scene with a papier mache gun! Superb!
(came out of the same house as it is now)

Wasnt Full Metal Jacket filmed in East London? The bit where they go into the abandoned city and catch the snipers.
