Quickracks & Small Wheel
Discussion
Does anybody know of any problems running a quite a small steering wheel with the quickrack?
I think looking at my ruler my steering wheel is about 11inchs
Also any advice on tools and methods on replacing the rack would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Do you really need a quick rack? Unless you are e.g. autotesting, I'd have thought the standard rack would be more than quick enough?
Anyway, to remove the rack you need to drop the back of the subframe down a couple of inches to give some clearance. When you install the new rack, make sure that the U-bolts are properly seated and not at an angle to the rack, otherwise the rack mountings can suddenly loosen with trouser filling consequences.

In my opinion the best compromise is a 14" wheel and a standard rack. I have always used this on all my rally cars and I never find it difficult to get the lock needed when needed. I guess a quick rack might help in some circumstances, but to use a quick rack safely would probably demand a 15" wheel.
A wheel as small as 11" is really not very safe on any Mini, and especially so with a quick rack. No competition driver would use anything less than a 13" and even then on anything but an absolutely smooth surface the steering loads would be quite high.
Remember, the original works rally cars of the '60's normally used 15" steering wheels and standard racks. They didn't do too badly!!
Why would anyone want an 11" wheel, anyway?

I think i will just put a std one back on then.
Do i need to loosen the tower mounts to get enough room to fit it?
The wheel came with my first mini and its followed me ever since.
I really do like it even though the stitching is all falling out and the leather worn through in some places
+ it does help being that i'm 6ft 2 and need the leg room!!!
