Oh come on you miseries.

Just go to the nearest sweet shop, and buy several kilos of sweets.

Then pretend you're out, move the cars off the drive, turn all the lights off, and retire to a back room and eat all the sweets you purchased.

Its a tradition in our house.

Best advice I ever got on this one, hang a big colourful empty bag on your front door and pin a note above it reading 'Happy Halloween kids!! We're out for the evening but please help yourself to sweets and chocolates from the bag' Job done.

Offer them fruit, preferably out of date, or of the 'cooking' variety.

Used to bug me when old dears offered fruit when I was a Guyser (as it used to be called before the American invasion).
Word soon got round that it wasn't worth visiting those particular houses!
