Just been reading the GG topic on Swindon and the removal of the camera's and a common theme seems to be, good on the council for doing it, but Swindon itself, well you wouldn't want to be there.
Comments made by people that dont actually live here.

so cmon, what's wrong with it .. what set's it apart in crudness from any other dormer type town ?
or is this just a .. i passed it rapidly on the m4 one morning and it seemed a bit grey type comments ?

whats wrong with Swindon? its that a trick question.

If swindon was a colour, it'd be that cream brown colour you used to get on metro's

Have you witnessed the magic roundabout? say no more.

My brother lives in a new build appartment on the other side of old town, his area isnt bad but as soon as you get out of the road its fking awful!!

anything attributed to the cause of it ? There no nuclear station / toxic dump / human testing stations around here that I know of.

Swindon town is awful, but its in a good location and as soon as you get out of the town itself (even by a couple of miles) its beautiful countryside.

Its getting better though - and in a few years it'll be ok smile

The OP is IMO asking the wrong question. Can anyone name a single redeeming feature of Swindon?

The magic .. whats wrong with it then ? its easy to use, allows a massive flow of traffic without tail backs. and apparently been copied in several other places. As for the colour, I would of said green. No matter where you are you can look up and see the ridgeway / marlbourgh downs rolling away. I guess your brother is on the old hospital site with a nice view of those very downs.

I think it might be, im not sure, all i know is there are some chinese residents who sit in their ripspeed chav chariots revving them and the "tunes pumping" at 1am, they also shout down the phone outside in engrish, how he puts up with it i dont know.

The magic rb has my arse gripping my seat, i dont find it a nice experience at all. In princeable its fine, its the other drivers who dont have a fking clue which lane they should be in which makes things interesting!

It's the type of chav that swindon breeds that sets it apart from the rest, plus i think Honda have the highest number of illegal immigrant workers ever.

I worked there between 2000-2001. Stayed in a rented house in
Hayden Wick ? Bit of a bland " anywhere town ". Nothing particularly
great about it, nothing particularly bad.

Do they still have that mad roundabout ! ?

Some of the villages around it were lovely though. When I went there
for my interview I stayed at a place called the Marsh Farm Hotel in
Wooton Bassett. Nice little place, and some other nice villages nearby
too.
Still didn't stop me from catching the train out of Swindon at every
available opportunity, though.
Haydon is v dull...

Problem with Swindon, is that there is very little to do once you've been ice skating, to the cinema and the outlet village.

I hated living there as a kid and couldn't wait to move out - but now I've grown up, I find myself wanting to move back to the area (not Swindon town..) as there are good pubs and good friends there - and everything is much more accessible. Location wise, there is nothing to complain about - good roads to loads of places.

So you're saying the good thing about Swindon is that it's easy to get out of and go somewhere else..?...smile
