I don't know why, but I find it REALLY sad when someone names their car.

The only thing I've ever called any of mine is you w£(*&ker when they've broken down.

Feel free to name and shame here so we can all take the razz

I used to have a D reg 998cc Nissan Micra. It was black with big silver go faster stripes (not my idea). My brothers nicknamed it 'The Silver Bullet'.

A mate of mine had a baby poo brown Talbot Sunbeam, known as... "The Shed"

My Brother used to work for a Car Dealer who's runaround was a mk1 Fiesta Van called 'Gloria'...
... Get it 'Gloria Fiestavan'... get it, get it... Oh well, maybe its an eighties joke.

It had a very good stereo... known as 'The Miami Sound Machine!'

....I'll get me coat..

My father (a doctor) had a brown 3 litre Capri in the late 70's. His nurses used to call it "The Faecal Flash" (it was considered quite fast in those days).

Their attempts on his Lime Green Lotus Europa ("The Green Caterpillar") and Sea Green TVR 400SE ("The Green Dragon") didn't quite hit the same heights of humour though, and no-one could think of anything witty for his white Lotus Esprit S3.

We used to run a DAF truck ,and the main dealer (who I won't name & shame) had an attrocious wreck of an ex-Post Office Sherpa van as their (dis)courtesy vehicle. They called it the red perril.

Ackshewally, I have a confession to make.

I did name one of my cars. It was a knackered 1.8 Sierra which I bought for buttons just to run into the ground on my daily M4 slog.

I called it 'the Bic'

- 'cos it was disposable

My kit car was called Nelly 'cos everyone said I had brought a white elephant and would never get it on the road. She eventually was white and I had a badge on the front with Nelly written on her, but it was the kind of car you would give a name.

Stig, I agree. I think naming cars is a 'girl' thing - unless it's ironic like jsg's contribution. My friends - who know my passion for cars - are often surprised when I suddenly sell one and buy something totally different. I just get bored and fancy a change - if I miss the car I've sold I can always buy another one.

You're right guys, naming cars is girly and I'm guilty. The last two have named themselves - Lilac metallic BMW 850 csi is now Lilac Lil...K94 NES Toyota Supra twin turbo was Nessie..go figure!
