How many other issues are being buried at the moment?
Discussion
One of the things that AREN'T being buried at the moment, is, well, bodies.
Families that don't have the money to bury someone using their savings can get grants etc. but due to the credit crunch, undertakers cannot afford the several week wait until grants come through and are asking for money upfront. The families don't have the readies to hand, so loads of bodies are being cold stored until the grants come through.

I notice the VED band out-cries seem to have mysteriously disappeared. As ever this credit crunch will be a convenient distraction from other unfair policies that sneak in through the back door, or a convenient excuse to impose freedom-sucking policies in a knee-jerk reaction to the problem which will f

Yep, and what about the increase in fuel duty that was delayed from April to October, what do you reckon on the chances of that sliding through, especially as the barrel price has dropped?

The Olympic overspend has gone very quiet, scapping the new Carriers got a little mention the other day...

Can't imagine any backing down over additional tax at the moment - the govt will need as much money as they can get!
Expect taxes to go up and up.Quite a few seafairers have just had their income taxes rocket after the Revenue decided they weren't on ships, they were in fact on 'moving platforms' or some such, removing their exemption.

Expect taxes to go up and up.And what will the government now have to do in order to recover the money they just dished out? Raise taxation.

Personally I think millions of people need (deserve) to die... A nice war. That's what you need. Create a land of opportunity and a new boom artificially. The first to die should be the rich. It's the only way to make sure everyone makes a fresh equal start.
Hmm... moral grounds to a rich-culling revolution by the people? I think so!

They have some massively expensive and complicated hairbrained scheme to record and keep all electronic communications in Britain. So all your phones calls, emails, websites you've visited etc are recorded and kept a few years before some public servant loses an unencrpted disk on a train and your private phone calls become the next hit on youtube.

At the current rate the Olympics is going to be held in a shed at the bottom of Daley Thompson's garden.By spending on internal capital projects you keep money in the country, employ large numbers of personnel and because they are all paying tax the govt gets 20% or so of every pound back in tax & NI.
Depending on how long and how deep the slow-down is the olympic project could actually turn out to be a bit of a god-send. During any slow-down the construction business suffers early and hard. Whether you are in favour of the Olympics coming to London, or the antcipated spend on it, here at least is a pefect solution to keep great swathes of the construction industry busy on a project that has to be completed on time to a standard whatever the cost.
Prime contractor companies should be on a straightforward cost plus basis to avoid massive profiteering and/or equally some of the debacles typically of the Wembley build when steel prices quadrupled between design and delivery date.
