Boiler problem, advice needed.....
Discussion
It seems at some point this weekend, my boiler started to leak water out of the overflow pipe.
What could cause this and is it something that i could fix?
I have been trying to find a plumber to come out and have a look, but not much luck so far, so other than the fact its dripping outside from the overflow pipe, nothing else is wrong with the boiler, so i think its just causing me money in wasted water, is that the case or could it be more serious?
Ta for any help.

When the same happened to my Combi boiler, it was the pressure relief valve (PLV) that was faulty.
Its what this poster said then
I'm no expert but my boiler has had similar problems on more than one occasion.....
If the PRV is venting then it could be faulty, or it could be doing its job. If there is a lot of debris in the system and you have micro-bore in particular, the pipe to the expansion chamber can block. When this happens the boiler will vent to avoid blowing up.
Some things to check are whether it does it on just the heating or on the hot water as well. If its only on the heating, I'd say it could well be the expansion chamber not coming into play. If you turn the heating on, does the pressure rise higher than normal once warmed up? and once its off again after running for an hour or so are you needing to top up the system?
Which ever it is, as long as you don't need a power flush it should be relatively inexpensive. If the flow to the expansion chamber is blocked or the chamber itself is broken you can fit an additional one on the flow return and that'll do the job of the original. Use 15 mm pipe and it'll never block either. That'll only set you back about £30 plus the pipe.
Oh, and if you ask British gas they'll want to fit a filter and possibly powerflush the system chances are. Which will set you back around £1000 so be warned! I'm not saying thats a bad thing but unless your staying in the place for years to come that kind of expense is a little OTT IMO.
