Reports are now suggesting that the Government are considering taking stakes of more than 50% in our banks and placing politically motivated people on their Boards.

Is this taking things too far?

Since the bankers have fked up bigstyle and lent beyond their means to cover the action, it seems we have to prop up the system with public money. Rather than simply handing the dosh over to the people who have proved themselves incapable of runniong their business prudently, we will have to oversee it to ensure it is not misused by these incompetents.

Don't see the govt has much choice really. Due diligence and all that.

I can see people turning away from credit cards and bank loans etc if the government is running it all!

Maybe that would be a good thing?

So it would be turfing out the overpaid fk-wits without a clue and replacing them with overpaid fk-wits without a clue

No change there then

What will this do to shareholder confidence, and who's to say the Government appointed directors are going to be any more able than the bankers they will be controlling?

The country and Labour Party have not exactly been run in the most healthy way, either.

I said this on the other thread - I was a bit merry but this morning it still seems scarily apt..

I'd say it was almost all going to 'plan'.

OK, a hasty plan which was drawn up on the back of a fag packet, but our glorious leaders have rendered themselves an integral part of the housing stock and credit supply, and they will soon hold massive sway over who can get mortgages and where - or even credit cards. They will control the supply of credit, which love it or loath it the country has become to depend on - need votes in Blackburn? Turn up the loan tap for the area and create a mini (false) economic boom.

Wonderful. Next we will all have a house allocated to us based on our affiliations within the party - and the mother country. A lefties bloody dream come true - and all by accident.

Well there will be fewer pignuts in the trough for shareholders for sure. But then, there'll be fewer pignuts for everyone for quite a while anyway, now that the credit binge is over.

I guess to those people who have no desire to be ruled by a far left dictatorship, it's not the pignuts that worry them, it's the inevitable Napoleons that rear their very ugly communist heads from the embers...and the control freakery that will follow, a lot worse, some may say, than a few, on the whole, harmless pignuts. I don't know why, but I do sense something very bad is heading the UK's way, hammer and sickle shaped..

Precisely.

There is no benefit in going from one extreme to another.

... later on, once the taxpayer has been shafted by building up the businesses at great (and probably excessive) expense, the banks will be privatised again.

Money has come VIA the politicians but not FROM them. He who pays the piper calls the tune, so WE should say not the dynamic ditherers Incapability Brown and Slugbrows.

It came from US, so politicians should not take this as an excuse to take a controlling share, and what interest they have should be relinquished as soon as market stability returns. Of course, in doing so when the system is in some sort of state of mormality and share prices have risen again THEY should take profit on behalf of US when OUR shares they hold for us are sold, and then they can take less TAX from us in future as a result. A good result.

Government incompetents thinking they can take over the show - what a hoot. They weren't able to see this coming, in fact Brown and Darling would need jugs of weewee and male genetic material clearly labelled before they could tell whether they were coming or going.

I don't see that La-La and Po from the tory party would fare any better TBH.

Living through the Tory period, what I gleaned from their stint in office was that they would leave you alone to get on with your life, with no excessive interfering – if you wanted to work hard and make something of yourself, you were duly rewarded.

Now, I can see a time in the not too distant future (if not already), that it will be legal to deface nice cars in the name of whatever’s in vogue at that particular time – hard work and aspiration are no longer rewarded, but stifled.

Never mind, you already have the “People’s Post Office”, soon, you’ll have “The People’s Banks” where you can ask for your “People’s Mortgage” (depending on what you vote for, I would assume, after answering a series of compliance questions..), and then you can live in your state owned house watching state sponsored TV.

Who knows. Either way a group consisting largely of educated professionals being given an opportunity to demonstrate a better clue than former CND and communist party members with no life experience but a patronising line in self-serving incompetence is surely worth a try at this point.

Byers. Prescclot. Slugbrows. Harperson. Blahs. Microbrand. FFS nu labia is just a comedy of errors.

Yes The Comrade's Post Officerofl

Big queues for shocking service, highly reminiscent of the former Soviet Union as required.

And so presumably if the tories are returned to power, they'll leave the banks to get on with the hard work of syphoning all the public money out of the back door and offering us mortgages at their choice of SVR to cover up the shortfall.

Can TV actually get any worse than it is now? Last night, the missus and I decided to ebay ours. laugh
