Has my wifes cousin lost 100k?
Discussion
I'm not sure of the exact details but my wifes cousin had about 150k in an Icelandic bank account and tried to CHAPS it out about 5 days ago. The money still hasn't arrived to it's destination account here in the UK.
She's starting to get very worried, the bank are saying the money has left her account but the transfer system in inundated, hence the lack of cash.
Like I said, don't know the full details but she did say the bank it was in has just been taken over by ING??
Oh and the 150k is inheritance from her mum passing away, can't believe it may actually have disappeared!!

Good.
Seriously, can't tell you how gutting it would be for her to lose her mum (cancer) then this money. It took a fvcking age and a lot of hassle, and fvckin inheritance tax, to realise that cash.
Are you sure it was CHAPS? You usually have to pay £25 for that. Otherwise its usually BACS which is three to five days.Seriously, can't tell you how gutting it would be for her to lose her mum (cancer) then this money. The transfer will probably have been cancelled. That in itself is not an issue.
If the bank is Kaupthing then no problem. Just transfer again when you regain access (I think ING own Kaupthing now). You've lost nothing and need not claim.
If it's Icesave that's a bit more complex. You're guaranteed the £50K back (or £100K if it's a joint account) and you'll soon receive a claims form. For anything over that £50K it's very, very (very) likely you'll be able to claim for that too - and recieve it, although it doesn't have the same level of certainty as the £50K.
Of course, you'll lose the interest whilst all the farting around is done.

There has been a lot of this reported on the radio.
If you have paid for CHAPS then it should have been one day. BACS is 3 to 5 days.
The opinion of radio 5 was that if you paid for CHAPS and it hasn't arrived then it hasn't been entered on the system correctly (whether maliciously or accidently) and that your money has probably gone.
Sorry.

I have been working early this week with some Dutch guys who have many friends in exactly the same situation. The Icelandic bank advertised a higher rate of interest for the last couple of months on Dutch TV, and many folks are trying to get it back with the same result - no longer in their Icelandic account, not in their NL account. Same story with the Germans I was working with.
I guess it is just a combination of the type of transfer (BACS - 3-5 days as mentioned before), and slow because of the shape of the banks right now, and the loadings. Let's hope so.
Good luck - I hope it works out.

is it fvck.....that was my idle ramblings, she would never ever do that, she's a really nice girl....I have also changed my twisted view on said situation.Apparantly she is with Kaupthing. She did pay for a CHAPS though, on monday (6 days ago). Kaupthing and ING have assured her the money is in a 'holding account' while they process her transfer.
From the sounds of it sounds like she'll be ok in the end.
cheers.
