Every time some new anti-terror legislation, ID cards, a surveilance society or one of several other things is mentioned civil liberties campaigners start harping on about function creep and the threat of abuse by "future regiems(sp)"

Have we now seen out first REAL bit of function creep? Whilst not directed at us, Iceland are NOT a bunch of terrorists and the use of anti terror laws to sieze theier assests is clearly an abuse of what they were intended for.

Tinfoil hat or not, I'm a bit worried by this.

Must admit I've always been more concerened by the threat of abuse by the current regime _ wouldn't trust this scum as far as I could spit a rat.

It is comical but they're shooting themselves in the foot... noone's going to believe them in future when they say "yes I know this new law means we can drop your kegs and sniff your balls whenever we want to, but we won't do that, we'll only use it once a decade on Osama Bin Laden, honest"

The old guy at the labour conference who interrupted Jack Straw.
The guy taking photos of the M3 junction for a map on his works' website.
The student photoing high street shops for an assigment.
Protesters outside HoP.
Threatening potential fuel blockaders with arrest and detention.
Spying on people who might want the best for their kids, or who might be commiting the heinous crime of putting the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin.

What was that about function creep again?
