Yayy, I am off there in just over 14 days.
Anyone else been to Buenos Aires? I have been reading up about it but am not clear on what the culture is like. It is safe to wander around on your own? or is it just like a european city? I ahve never been to south america before and am a bit clueless.
I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere!

Great country but to be honest BA is a sad facsimile of a Spannish city without the old culture. You soon realise that you could have saved yourself 16 hours on a plane and just gone to Seville and wandered around the bits that were built in the 50s while ignoring anything older.

La Bocca is the real culture but you can't really spend too long there.
It's as safe as anywhere. I.e common sense prevails.
Definately need to get out and about. A couple of days up at the delta is good but nothing beats Patagonia. Stunning.

Not been to BA but have to plenty of other places. Be aware of your surroundings, don't flash cash or jewelry and get some advice locally. And be careful where you get w
kered, IME that's when people get into proper trouble. Some good advice. I am unfortunatly going to be tied to BA so exploring is not an option. I hope to go back sometime and get out into the country.
so what you guys are saying is just do the usual and keep the bling at home. I thought that might be the case but couldn't seem to define a definiative answer.

I have only recently come back from a rugby tour of South America. Argentina is a great place, we visited Buenos Aires, Santiago and Iguazu. We stayed outside Buenos Aires with our hosts on their ranch for the first few days, they let us be gauchos for two days which was a laugh. The people are lovely, everything is cheap, steaks are plentiful and cheap, the weather is similar to ours this time of year.
Santiago was a bit rubbish, but we only went for a tournament. Iguazu is brilliant, the falls are immense and make niagra falls look s
te.
We had no trouble at all in Argentina, thats 40 blokes all dressed in suits, silly accents, with lots of cash and drunk most of the time.
The only incident was at Gatwick when some black guy though it was a good idea to steal an ipod from a sleeping member of our group. Cue 40 rugby players charging after this guy, he soon gave it back.

My father went there 26 years ago. Didn't get a very warm welcome IIRC
