2003 Passat 2.5 tdi - weird noise after switching off???

Anyone able to help here?

I've just bought a v6 tdi which seems to be a great car - economical and pulls like a train over a couple of thousand revs!!!

Just one thing though, that might be quite normal, but would be happier to know for sure. After I switch off the engine there's about 5 seconds of low grumbling from the engine. Sounds a little like distant thunder - no idea what it is..

Has anyone else experienced anything similar or can anyone make any sensible recommendations??

One of the cooling fans are noisy.
Open the bonnet and check, have someone switch the engine off while you watch and listen to the fans slow down.
