I've had a Canon Powershot A75 for many years now, until recently when a certain person (who shall remain nameless) tried jamming the CF in backwards and broke a few pins off the connector. Repair is beyond my soldering skills and repair will cost more than the camera did in the first place.

So new camera time! Budget is around £100 but can stretch to £150 tops. I'm not massively clued up on cameras and don't want to spend my hard earned on something which is obsolete next week. Any handy guides out there or forums I can peruse to clue up a little?

Feature wise I'm not looking for lots of megapixesl (the 3MP A75 gave me all the resolution I needed) and beyond that I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Image stabilisation/vibration reduction would be great and seems to be included on most cameras I've looked at in this price range. Blurry pics have been a bit of an issue for me! I believe there's different types of VR technology, are there any better than others?

Seen a Nikon Coolpix S560 at Costco for £145, seems a good price for what would appear to be a recently released camera, full of features (10MP, 5x opt zoom etc) and should last me a few years. A deal too good to miss out on?

If pre VAT no - if including VAT yes!

Personally for a compact I'd go:

1 Lumix Panasonic range
2 Canon range
3 Nikon Coolpix range

....in that order.

This might be good value - it was released about a year ago, but this price is pretty good;
