Hi all.

I've been enjoying my V6 as is intended but i've noticed recently after the engine has reached temperature when I stop at lights/anywhere and sit idling, there is a rattling sound (not variator - i've heard that on my 145). If I dip the clutch it becomes almost unnoticable. Any ideas?

Thanks

James

The coggishamble has come lose and it's banging against the shaggascrumper.

I was thinking it could be that but I replaced the coggishamble not long ago! I thought when you replaced the coggishamble that was good for at least a few months.

I noticed your occupation is listed as 'problem solver of the C kind'. Could that C stand for cr@p? biggrin

Clutch release bearing?

Do either you or the previous owner leave your foot on the clutch when waiting at traffic lights? Tends to result in early wear on the bearing, especially if you're a city driver....

Sounds more like gearbox chattering at idle. Check the oil level. Otherwise just live with it. Not an uncommon thing. Had Alfasuds that have done it. Not to mention Mercs and BMs. It's just wear and tear, usually once over the 100k mark.

OK thanks for the replies guys. I'll check the gearbox oil when I get back. Could also be the clutch as until recently it was used by my sister for lots of city driving.

It has 130k on it now so wear and tear will start to become an issue frown The engine still sounds and pulls beautifully though.. Gotta love the V6 biggrin

Mine sounds like a monster at the moment - packing on back box is going and the V6 sounds louder and burblier than ever. I guess I'll have to sort it soon, but it's actually rather pleasing.................
