Hi everyone,

I was wondering i this is a good choice i got offered a mk2 golf GTI for 325 pound MOT but no tax and has 102,000 mile on the clock just had service and body and engine in really good condition but the inside driver's seat has rip's in it but that's about it.

Thanks in advance

Sounds good to me, I love them! What year is it? Big bumper? Either way I would.

Hi Leslie - if you want a cheap toy or something to spanner on they're marvellous beasties. Very little on a MK2 is difficult/complicated to rebuild yourself.

Quite a few recent threads on here with really good buyers info.

Anymore on the car you're looking at?

£300 quid you can't really go wrong, even if the engine blew up the day after you'd bought it you could probably part it out for most of what it cost. Worst case my local VW specialist threw a 2nd hand 8v lump in my old one a few years ago for £175 inc engine!

Bargain! I bought one a few years back for £350 small bumper 8v no power steering. Drove fantastic and it sold for £650 back in feb. I just tidied a few bits up, new tyres etc in the time I had it.

if the bodywork is in good condition and there are some old MOTs or service history to varify the millage and the engine/mechanicals are in good nick then it sounds like a good deal to me.

better still if it is a 3dr 16v!!!

Hi Everyone,

Well i brought it it ran for about a minute then cut out but i cant hear the fuel pump primeing up so could be that she is sparking but no fuel is getting to the injector's. I will post pic up of it later it's the big bumper one just need's a wash and she is there.

Thanks for advice

welcome to MK2 ownership! sign up to clubgti.co.uk, there is a super technical section on there and they are a friendly bunch!

your problem could be the fuel pump relay, with the fuse box cover off (under dash) there will be a series of relays above the fuses.. i think number 67 is the fuel pump relay . either way turn the key to the 2nd position an you should hear the relay click. Also check the fuel pump fuse - the fuse box lid has the locations of the fuses.
