The past few weeks a friend and I have been debating, and making some loose plans, to work a season on a ski resort in Austria. I am not 100% decided as of yet, my friend however is, and is constantly pushing me to make a decision, apply for jobs etc. It is something I do really want to do, and at the moment, I am in a position to do so, with nothing tieing me down other than a wonderful, but very rooted girlfriend.

Is everything that is happening with the global economy going to affect me greatly by doing going for 6 months, or could I be making a big mistake? I can't make an informed decision as to whether it would be the wiser choice to stick to the job I have now, as boring as it may be, playing it safe.

I've got enough other decisions to make on it, but this economic crap is a factor I don't know enough about to take into consideration properly.

If you were in my position, would you go?

What exactly do you plan to do if you stay? Are you looking for a job in the City?

Unless you have investments in stocks and shares or a huge mortgage that is on a cheap fixed rate then the current economic problems will not affect you. Go for it and have some fun. You can always get another job when you return to the UK.

Do it

Doing a ski season was the best thing I ever did!

Whatever you decide, things are going to be the same in 6 months. Would you rather sit in the UK with all the doom and gloom worrying about things or enjoying yourself in the Alps skiing all day and partying all night?!?!?

life is too short, etc.. etc..

Nooo, either a design/engineering based job in the aviation or automotive industries, or back to uni to get a full degree.

I'm thinking it'll probably be fine, but as I said, I don't understand what is going on enough to be 100% certain on that.

Just remember that you may be liable for extra tax in the Uk when you return if you pay less tax then you would in the Uk whilst there. Google IR20 and read section 2 for particulars

That's one I didn't know about. Surely not if it's paid into my UK account and paid by a UK based employer?
