I think there is some validity to the comments though. The media do love a good story (even if its made up) and they always need to spin something. In this case, its the economy and how badly it is doing.
Now I agree that its not looking great and there are problem areas already. But, I also have to say that I see things going pretty well in other areas. Popped in to see a friend today who runs an electrical installations firm. Basically the chap is run off his feed and doesn't know what day of the week it is! He's easily broken the mystical million revenue and its all going really well - and growing, even in this supposedly disasterous time.
And that's my point. The economy doesn't just stop overnight. It carries on for a while. People real their spending in and carry on as normal. Yes, this has an impact, but we don't all end up in mud huts. In fact, during the late 80's and early 90's it was bad, really bad - but if my memory serves me right, things carried on as relatively normal.....
Oh, and even companies such as Tescos are still doing well. Their most recent results (to September) showed they are continuing to be very successful in a difficult market. Our oil companies are going to be posting bumper profits again (due to the high oil prices) and 'safe stocks' such as mining have never been so good.
So are we going to be pushed back 2000 years in development? Or are the media getting a little carried away with the heart-strings stories...?
