Scenario:

Camping in a field, our dog gets spooked by something and legs it into someones tent, breaking one of the poles of that tent.

Being reasonable people we offered to sort out a replacement pole for the tent.

Our dog was fine, but the tent owners didnt really care.

We get a letter from the tent owners a few months later requesting that we pay the exceess for their insurance claim for a new tent, as the tent is so old that the part cannot be repaired/replaced. We send a £50 cheque off begrudgingly.

We've just recieved a letter from their insurers seeking the cost for the replacement tent from us as our dog "attacked and damaged the tent".

Can anyone give us any idea whether or not they can do anything like this? We have insurance on the dog, which gives third party insurance, however should we have to?

Its one of those things - you camp at your own risk?

they may feel they were liable to the extent of £50, that being reasonable expense of replacement pole.

rolleyesWhat a load of bks. They just couldn't be arsed fixing it and decided to claim off the insurance. How much are the insurers trying to claim off you? And do you know what tent the other people had (Or at least how big it was?)

£600 - it was a 6 person type job, dating from, what it looked like, the 1900's.

Its an option, certainly its what we pay the money for; however I was wondering if there are any legal arguments against this: Surely we should not be expected to shoulder the cost for a complete tent, if the insurance company does not do its checks to ensure that the tent is repairable, then that is not our issue?
