Anyone know what it is like getting through security for an 8.30am flight? Is it a walk through or stand for hours in a queue?

Never queued for more than 15 mins, even in busy times.

I used to fly aerlingus every week, more money, yet just as bad. At least you got to pick a seat online though...

Flying ryanair next week too, I read somewhere they will let you use your mobile phone yikes after all the bashing you get about not being able to use it, all of a sudden it's OK.... confusing...

Dublin airport is usually very busy in the mornings so I would allow plenty of time. I am there once a month for an earlier flight and the queues can be quite long. You may be lucky, but I would give yourself an extra half hour.

They are the only airline I've been on that's ever taken off early. Everyone was at the gate. We all got on the plane and it landed in Dublin about the same time it was due to leave Stanstead.

Are you kidding??? Its a bloody nightmare! Bare minimum 30min queue for the x-ray machines. I used to fly out every Monday morning - its horrendous.

I used to fly the other way! but the airport was never busy when I landed at 8am and leaving Friday afternoon at peak time I hardly ever had to queue for the x-ray machines.

Went through there on Friday, 5 minutes at the xray machines (both sets).
However if you're flying Ryanair you need to allow for the Para-style yomp that you need to do along the new concourse to get to the Ryanair gates (typically D gates). I walk fast and it took me over 5 minutes.

Wasn't very busy last time I passed through and had the added bonus of being next to Lee Evans in the cue. Seems like a very shy bloke in person.

Seems that Dublin airport is the new Met Bar.

Yes it can be a very long walk, particularly if you have to go to the gate towards the right accross the travelators instead of the one past the bar. I've missed planes after checking in thinking I had plenty of time to stroll.

Like pretty much any airport, you can be lucky or unlucky. On-line check in gets you over one hurdle. Security is less 'jobsworth' than UK but more likely to be subject to security people discussing last night's adventures. Can be very slow at peak times e.g. Saturday 06.30 (<30 minutes) but more likely to be 5-10 minutes.

For 08.30 flight I wouldn't arrive later than 07.30 having checked in. Allow an extra 30 mins if not checked in.

B gates are less than 5 mins from security.
C gates about 5 minutes
A gates about 10 minutes
D gates about 15 minutes

All have coffee/newspapers.

Getting to the airport can be slow at peak times - taxi best as parking can be difficult in short term and time consuming in long term. Currently the Port Tunnel closes from 23.00 to 06.00 every night. Short term airport parking expensive @ €80/day. Bewlays Hotel near airport is a useful option; vast underground car parks x 2 @ €8/day with efficient shuttle bus to and from airport every 15 mins or so.
