And I think it's great!!!
I ummmed and arrrred for weeks over this or a 5 series but in the end I opted for the 2.5 TDi Manual. It's not a minter, but I wasn't prepared to pay 'mint' money for one because many are overpriced, but it's level enough and drives great - pulls like a train and goes round corners like it's on rails. It's a 51 plate 2002 in pale blue amd was a lot cheaper than most kicking about so I think I've got a bargain, so I'm quite smitten with it (so far anyway).

And I know it's not exactly the 'fire up the quattro' Quattro, but I've always fancied a 4WD and so far it's not disappointed!

Anybody got any experiences to share in one of these?

Cheers beer

Not quite, but i've got a 52plate A4 quattro with the same engine as yours (2.5tdi Manual). It's nice to drive but quite thirsty for a diesel. (400miles to a tank if i go steady) but other than that i think it's brilliant. Make sure you put some money aside when it comes to changing tyres because all 4 went at once on mine. Cost me over £700!

I'd be interested to know how your fuel economy compares, with yours being a bigger car.

Hi, funny you should say that, because it's just had 2 new tyres and a full service and the other 2 are virtually new. It has Federals on the (frt I think have to check) and Maxxis on the others. Now I know these aren't top tyres and I've never heard of the Maxxis ones, but it handles like sh*t to a blanket in the dry. Was a bit wet on Saturday when I drove it back from Leeds and although I took it easy it felt good grip wise. Federals are supposedly a decent mid-range tyre although I'd never opt for them myself usually - took me ages to decide on tyres for my Focus. Receipt was about £140 fitted for 2 off 225 x ??? x 18's. Cant remember profile off top of my head - guessing 35's.

As for fuel. I test drove it and it went into reserve. When I picked the car up it hadn't gone anywhere and I drove a few miles to put £20 in. Drove back from there to home (about 85 miles) round town next day, work on Monday and back total of about 170 miles so far and I'm not back into res just yet. I have took it pretty easy at times but booted it on many occasions as you do to try it, show your pal etc, and it seems incredibly good fo rthe size of the car.

I'll not be using the car again for a little while until we sell our other car but I'll update you once I do.

I've thought about a remap to try and gain a bit more mpg but to be fair i shouldn't complain, as the other car i came close to buying was a high mileage E46 M3 - so i'm £££'s better off already.

I've been using millers fuel additive for the last 3 tanks and it claims an extra 17% mpg. I've seen a slight increase but i think it's one of those psychological things where you drive more carefully to see how many extra miles you can get to a tank. As a result your mpg goes up and you think it's magic stuff.(A bit like giving a can of shandy to a kid and watch them stumble about "drunk" cos they think it's proper mucky beer)

I agree about how well it handles, for a big heavy car (i think nearly 1700kg) i was surprised. I have more confidence going into roundabouts and corners than my old Leon Cupra R. Which probably explains all 4 tyres wearing out together.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your A6 as much as my A4!

Yea cheers I hope I do. I checked the mileometer and it's done 180 miles since picking it up and it's got a little bit to go yet before it's where it was - I can't understand it! I was watching the sconomy gauge like a hawk for a bit - which is sad so maybe my careful driving for most of the time has made the diffence - time will tell. I guess onece you've had a car a bit you start to be more explorative with things (i.e. the right foot).
I have an A4 too, a 1.8 which is nippy but a very tame little thing as you can imagine. It's mint though and has been well looked after and only has 35K on it - and it's a '99 reg car. I'll probably keep that for years.

Cheers
